Privacy Policy

This policy explains the small amount of information associated with use of New Haven Residents Directory. The reference points to public rolls and historical collections in New Haven County and needs no account. Searches may be sent to the outside provider that supplies the result tools, while ordinary hosting logs may remain with the service that runs the pages. Public records held by Connecticut offices are controlled by their own custodians and laws.

Information You Send

If a visitor enters a name, phone number, or address in a search form, the submission goes to the third-party provider that powers that result. New Haven Residents Directory does not keep a local copy of those search terms. A message sent to us contains whatever the writer chooses to include, and that information is used to answer the message.

Ordinary Technical Logs

Hosting services may record an IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referrer, and timestamps. Aggregate information helps maintain the pages and understand which New Haven County resources are used. Cookies or similar tools may be used for basic analytics or, where applicable, advertising measurement. Those tools are controlled by their providers.

Why We Use This Information

The limited information described above supports site operation, error diagnosis, traffic measurement, page improvement, and responses to messages. We do not sell a visitor list or create an individual profile from ordinary use.

Outside Links and Providers

Pages link to Connecticut assessor, clerk, voter, court, DPH, USPS, library, archive, and other search resources. A visitor's submission to one of those services is governed by that provider's policy. Sponsored result tools are also supplied by a third party, and their collection, retention, pricing, and use rules are not controlled by this reference.

Who Processes Technical Data

Hosting and support vendors can process ordinary server logs. Analytics or advertising partners may receive the automatic information described above. Information is disclosed when valid legal process requires it and is otherwise kept within the limited uses stated here.

Security and Retention

The pages use an encrypted connection. Logs are kept only for the operational or measurement purpose that requires them, subject to the practices of the hosting and analytics providers. There are no New Haven Residents Directory accounts, passwords, or personal profiles for a visitor to maintain here.

Visitors Under 18

The reference is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a minor may have sent information, contact us and explain what should be removed so the limited local records can be checked.

Connecticut Privacy Choices

Connecticut's Data Privacy Act, CGS chapter 743jj, can give rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal data held by a covered business and to opt out of sale, targeted advertising, or certain profiling. The Connecticut Attorney General's guidance describes a general 45-day response period, a possible 45-day extension, and a 60-day appeal response period. A universal opt-out signal such as Global Privacy Control can communicate certain choices from January 1, 2025. The statute has exclusions and does not convert a town clerk, court, assessor, library, or state registry into a private commercial database.

Because this reference retains very little, a request usually involves checking the contact mailbox and relevant hosting logs. Use the Contact page to ask. Requests to change a New Haven deed, voter record, court file, assessor card, directory scan, or other public record belong with the custodian. Connecticut's Freedom of Information Act, CGS ยงยง1-200 through 1-242, governs access and exemptions for public agencies; it is not a general deletion process.

Changes to This Policy

When the privacy practices or the text of this policy change, the revised version will be posted here. Continued use after an update means the updated policy applies to later use.
